Stickability
A fun word to say as you keep going!
Oh, how I love this word! I recently found it as I was researching for synonyms of perseverance. Yes, in the midst of feeling MEH and STRESSED, I’ve been pondering the importance of consistency and moving forward even when things are falling apart.
You know that feeling of frustration, when you’re in front of the claw machine at the arcade? All those lonely cute plushies staring at you, wondering why you SUCK at helping them escape? You try so hard and you can’t seem to get one.
Like, come on, I’m entirely convinced they rig those things!
*Sigh*
Sometimes life situations feel like a giant claw machine—so many quarters spent, yet nothing cute to take home!
So when I saw the word Stickability, I thought “Oooh yeah, she’s got that staying power!” Hehe. It’s such a fun word to say, hits just right, and channels exactly what I need right now—the ability to keep going in the midst of all the hardships and epic that-so-did-not-work-out’s.
Henceforth, since I’ve been making a ton of lists these days, I thought I’d make a quick one to remind myself (and you, my fellow magical girlie) not to quit just yet.
Babe, I do believe we have that magical ability to stick to it and prevail:
That Magical Stickability!
So, here are my unsolicited thoughts:
TAKE A NAP, PLEASE
Go. To. Sleep.
I can’t count how many times I’ve stayed up too late or been too busy to rest—worrying, anxious, stressed within an inch of my life—moving through the day feeling like a zombie.
Deep in my I-need-to-keep-going/figure-this-out overwhelm, I’m wound so tight I’m basically a clockwork doll.
And then I curl up and take a nap.
And the world becomes right again.
Whether it’s just 20 minutes or an hour, try to give your body and mind a break. Allow yourself to wake up with more clarity and energy to tackle your goals.
Be sure to set an alarm too—sometimes I nap for like half a day (or the whole day—a notorious napper is what I am) if I’m not careful, LOL.
Also, if you find that napping is difficult (because of your schedule or how your body works <3), maybe choose an earlier bed time. Or take a few minutes a day to sit and sip some tea and just pause, and do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.
Hopefully that rejuvenates you as you continue along your journey💗!
WATCH A TV SHOW WHERE A MAGICAL GIRL TRIUMPHS AT THE END OF THE DAY
From Powerpuff Girls to Sailor Moon to Shugo Chara and everything and anything magical girl-esque in-between (the list is never ending!)—there is nothing quite like watching a fellow whimsy babe TRIUMPH.
I love when the dialogue is silly and fun, when emotions are fully and deeply expressed, and the magic and outfits just ✨SPARKLE✨. It’s uplifting to watch them do their thing!
Allow yourself to be filled with the impossible joy of knowing that you can do it too.
Because unrealistic or not, these girls are just like you: Trying to be themselves, make friends, find what they love, and save their universe (even if that’s just their bedroom)!
Furthermore, pessimism is OVERRATED.
(Feel free to quote me. Or fight me in the comments.)
Imagination can actually help you build that staying power, spark your creativity, and provide much needed happiness!
MAKE AN AWE INSPIRING SCREENSAVER TO REMIND YOU WHY EVERYTHING IS GOING TO BE OKAY
I love decorating digital things: especially computerssss. I love screensavers and icons and making my desktop look so cute. Like SOOO darn cute that when I boot it up I’m like:
“EEP, CUTE!”
I totally recommend that you make your screen look so yummy that you’re grinning like it’s Christmas (or your birthday) all over again.
Sometimes I have little reminders/quotes permanently on my home screen or a picture of my fave show/anime character/scenery etc. You can go clutter free or maximize that ish! You can also create a collage of a vision board or digital scrap book of everything that makes you happy.
I made a special magical girl screensaver/wallpaper, in case you wanna try that out—there are ones for your phone too.
It’s called Everything is Going to be Okay For this Magical Girl and Here’s Why…
It’s free and comes in a few colors:
Also, if you want it in more colors, designs, or quotes tell meeee~ :).
Give yourself something encouraging to look at every day, and let me know how it goes!
BUILD NEW STRATEGIES
[P.S. Sticking through/to something should not mean being STUCK with something. Though a new strategy can help you feel less stuck, please don’t hold on to things that hurt you. However, knowing when to let go of what doesn’t serve you is a skill that I’m still working on myself. Maybe one day I’ll write about it…]
Now, onwards to the power of new strategies!
When you’re walking along your path—doing your absolute best—but something is just OFF, a new strategy might be what you need.
Trying things a different way can make it all better. And one strategy I’ve found that works for me is to simply, SIMPLIFY!
Your upcoming goals, your daily to-do list, anything!
(Just the other day, I had a convo with a friend about simplicity and it was so real~ :))
Here’s my personal example of simplifying: The Fairy Post (my newsletter) has been kind of a point of contention for me. I’ve researched so much about the best way to do a newsletter. Weekly is the most recommended strategy and monthly is the least. SO, I tried weekly.
Safe to say, it didn’t work.
I was so anxious and stressed and I wanted so desperately to do a good job; to make it successful and be super consistent. But then I realized, I couldn’t handle it. Weekly was too much for me. Heck, I couldn’t even manage twice a month (so sorry y’all)!
Since this month, I’ve decided to stick to a monthly newsletter (it’s what I wanted to start off with from the beginning!). And since deciding that, it’s like a weight has been lifted from my chest. I can see a way forward, FOR REAL. I don’t have to do the most to “persevere” with my newsletter, LOL. In fact, I will do the least! I’m only human (and a hobby nerd juggling a Tumblr, a Pinterest, a blog, and writing fairytales. Like, BYE).
Essentially, your stickability can be straight forward.
Your perseverance doesn’t have to be this GIANT burden that you’re forced to endure. It can be good—it deserves to be simple and you deserve to have fun!
And that’s that!
Try these magical stickability actions and see what works to keep you focused, motivated and hanging on!
I know sometimes it feels like you just CAN’T, and that the world is trying to induce heavy BOOHOO feelings into your heart—but remember:
You’re a magical girl through and through, what does it matter what they try to do? If they knock you down you’ll get back up again, and that’s just the truth!
(okay, low-key was that bars or am I finessing myself??)
All of this silliness to say: SENDING YOU LOVE, YOU CAN DO THIS, AND ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE.
So don’t give up yet—the best is just around the corner!
